Contacts Help Sections - Import Contacts

The following steps will walk you through Importing Contacts.

Step 1:

  1. Make sure you are in the Contacts tab. If you are not, click the word Contacts which is in the Tabs at the top of the program.
  2. If you are in the Contacts tab, note the Navigation Pane in the left hand side of the program now shows a list of Groups.
  3. In the Navigation Pane select a Group. If you have not created any Groups then click here for help on creating a new group.
  4. Also, in the Data Grid the Group's Contacts will be shown.
  5. Click Import Contacts. This is located in the Ribbon Bar.
  6. A dialog box appears. Follow these steps.
    1. In the File type: drop down list select from Comma delimeted text file, Tab delimeted text file, Custom delimeted text file or Microsoft Access Database.
      1. Comma delimeted text file is a file that has values separated by a comma. Example: 123,John,Doe,UK.
      2. Tab delimeted text file is a file similar to the comma delimter file except values are separated by a tab.
      3. Custom delimeted text file is a file which has a delimeter of your choice. If you chopse this enter the correct delimeter into the text box to the right.
      4. Microsoft Access Database will import contacts from a .mdb file.
    2. Next there are three check boxes:
      1. Check Ignore contacts that already exist in this group if you do not want to import contacts that already exist in the chosen group.
      2. Check First row contains column headers if the first row of your file contains column names.
      3. Check Mark imported contacts as UNSUBSCRIBED if you want to set all imported contacts to UNSUBSCRIBED.
    3. Click the Input file: text box. You can either:
      1. Manually enter the file name of the file you want to import
      2. Click the box beside this text box and locate the file

Step 2:

  1. Click Import. You now have to match the columns.
  2. For each column right click the header name and match that a field.
  3. Once you have done that for each column click Import.
  4. If successful the Status Bar will now read Successfully imported x contacts (x is the number of imported contacts).
